Beginning my third draft

Keyboard

Well, I’ve received enough feedback on my novel that I can begin my third major edit. Most of what I got back concerned grammatical fixes. My brother, being the courteous person that he is, actually providing me with a printed copy that he used to jot down his notes and edits on. There are so many red marks in it that it looks like he slit a wrist and bled all over it. But, between him and my wife, there are also enough story suggestions that I know I’m going to be busy for a few weeks as I ponder suggestions and make changes. The most surprising remark that I got, and this came from both of them independent of each other, is that I have too many female characters, especially characters of authority. Now, I’ll admit that I made a conscious effort to include a large number of powerful women in my book since I think they are under represented in most genre fiction outside of sex pots and love interests, but perhaps I went overboard? Seems so.

Anyway, I’m going to be busy here shortly, so I don’t know how many posts I’ll be able to make while I work through this new draft. Thanks for coming by, though, and please leave comments.
